Kiwi Property needed to prepare a large site to host New Zealand’s first IKEA store, a long awaited addition to the NZ retail landscape, and one being closely watched by many. Sustainability was an important consideration for the client, and there were many challenging conditions through the course of the project, including dismantling significant amounts of polystyrene in the large coolstore buildings. Asbestos remediation and demolition works carried out with noise and dust restrictions and tight programme.
02
Green Way carried out asbestos remediation, full demolition of the existing buildings, removal of all kerbs and asphalt, disconnection and isolation of the exiting services, removal of fences and other hardstand structures. The total demolished building area was 13,310m2 and we removed asbestos materials from the buildings which were about 2,500m2 including Super 6 roofing. The existing asphalt of about 27,311m2 was removed from this site. ACM storm water lines about 450m were removed from 1m below ground level.
03
Green Way easily exceeded the landfill diversion target of 80.00% for this project, finishing on a sum of 94.6% landfill diversion. Careful separation of materials was a key part of this success, however the largest contributing factor was the initiative of crushing concrete on site for reuse in later stages of the contract. The client was very happy with the results delivered, and the manner in which Green Way undertook the project.
