Converting the former Auckland Council Administration Building to a new apartment complex required extensive asbestos remediation, a full strip out, and hard demolition back to the super structure. When Green Way started onsite the whole building was fully contaminated by asbestos, meaning that Class A asbestos conditions were required for a significant portion of the project. In addition to this, the project was undertaken through the peak of the Covid restrictions, requiring implementation of new procedures

Asbestos remediation and demolition works carried out to this 19 story fully contaminated building in Auckland Central Business District. Due to the location there were heavy traffic and noise restrictions and a tight programme. Due to the extensive asbestos contamination, all soft demolition was carried out under class A asbestos conditions. After soft demolition all asbestos fireproofing to steel was removed and the total structure was cleaned and given clearance. After clearance the curtain wall was demolished, thereafter all floor slabs were demolished.

The client was extremely happy with Green Way’s performance on this project. Green Way successfully attained an extremely high landfill diversion rate of 98.46% for this project. Careful separation of materials on site helped make this possible.
