The Challenge

The primary challenge was the extensive site clearance required for redeveloping social housing in the Owairaka area. The project required working in close proximity to the public and tenanted houses, which demanded exceptional care and consideration. The specific problems included the presence of hazardous asbestos materials and the need for comprehensive soil remediation across 124 properties. The client needed a company capable of ensuring public safety, environmental compliance, and efficient execution of demolition and asbestos removal.

02

The Project

Green Way Limited embarked on this comprehensive project, which involved several key operations: Following thorough asbestos surveys, all hazardous materials were meticulously removed from the soffits, roofing materials, and internal floor coverings of the properties. This task was performed with the utmost precision to protect public health and safety. Comprehensive safety measures were implemented, including constant air monitoring at the boundaries of each work area. Post asbestos removal, the buildings were systematically demolished. The process was managed in stages to prevent any interaction between the public and operational zones. The project included extensive soil remediation to prepare the site for future development. Meetings were conducted with tenants before any work was commenced near their properties to explain the processes involved and address any concerns. These activities were overseen by a senior site manager and executed by skilled Green Way operatives, ensuring high standards of safety and efficiency throughout the project duration.

The Result

The Owairaka House Removal Works project was successfully completed, achieving remarkable outcomes: 86.5% landfill diversion was accomplished, significantly reducing the environmental impact. The project was completed without any incidents of public harm or significant disruptions, thanks to effective management and continuous air monitoring. Through careful planning and execution, Green Way ensured that the work was completed sustainably, adhering to stringent environmental standards and promoting safe practices. The client expressed high satisfaction with the manner in which the project was undertaken, providing very positive feedback on the professionalism and efficiency demonstrated by Green Way Limited. The project stands as a testament to Green Way’s commitment to excellence, safety, and sustainability in complex demolition and remediation works.
